Welcoming Dr Rina Adnan-Demade: GP-Led Dermatology and Minor Surgery in Wickham

Dr Rina Adnan-Demade has joined The Watermill Clinic, with specialist dermatology clinics and minor skin surgery now running in Wickham.

We are delighted to welcome Dr Rina Adnan-Demade to The Watermill Clinic. With her comes a new GP-led dermatology and minor surgery service in Wickham.

Rina saw her first patients this week, and we are thrilled to have her in our growing team.

What makes her such a strong addition is the combination she brings. She has deep experience in general practice alongside specialist expertise in dermatology. In other words, she fits exactly what we set out to build at Watermill: experienced local doctors, easy access to care, and extra expertise within the community.

“Skin problems rarely exist in isolation.”

What GP-led dermatology actually means

Rina trained at the University of Southampton. She then spent more than five years as a GP partner on the edge of the New Forest.

Today she continues to work in NHS general practice. In addition, she works two days each week in the Dermatology Department at University Hospital Southampton.

She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Dermatology from Queen Mary University of London, and she belongs to the Primary Care Dermatology Society.

This mix matters, because skin problems rarely exist in isolation.

As a highly experienced GP, Rina looks at the whole patient. Meanwhile, her dermatology training lets her assess skin conditions, moles and lesions in much more detail. That is what GP-led dermatology means in practice.

Importantly, she still loves general practice too. Alongside her specialist clinics, she will also see patients for ordinary GP appointments. She cares for adults and children, across the full range of problems you would bring to a family doctor.

GP-led dermatology appointments without a long wait

Waiting for a dermatology assessment can take a very long time.

Our aim is to give patients another option. Therefore we offer rapid access to an experienced GP with specialist dermatology expertise, and you do not need a referral first.

Where availability allows, we can also offer same-day appointments. So if you spot a changing mole, notice a new skin lesion or develop a troublesome skin condition, you need not spend weeks worrying before you get an expert opinion.

Patients come to us from Wickham, Fareham, Bishop’s Waltham, Botley and the wider Hampshire area.

Rina assesses a wide range of skin concerns, including:

  • Moles and changing skin lesions
  • Cysts, lipomas and other lumps and bumps
  • Acne
  • Rosacea and facial redness
  • Eczema and psoriasis
  • Dermatitis, rashes and itching
  • Skin tags, milia, warts and verrucae
  • Children’s skin conditions

In addition, she offers full-body skin checks and mole mapping, with dermatoscope imaging where appropriate.

Mole and skin lesion checks

A new or changing mole understandably causes concern.

Rina can carry out a detailed skin lesion assessment, using clinical examination and dermoscopy where appropriate. As a result, she can look at uncertain lesions far more closely and agree a clear plan with you.

Sometimes the answer is simply reassurance or monitoring. Other lesions suit treatment here at the clinic. Meanwhile, anything that needs specialist investigation goes on to the right service.

That ability to move from assessment to diagnosis, treatment or referral sits at the heart of our approach.

Minor skin surgery in Wickham

Rina’s arrival also widens the minor dermatological surgery we can offer at The Watermill Clinic.

After an appropriate medical assessment, she can remove selected skin lesions under local anaesthetic in our clinic.

Procedures include skin biopsies, mole removal, cyst removal, skin tag removal, seborrhoeic keratosis treatment and other selected benign skin lesion procedures.

We also provide medical-grade liquid nitrogen cryotherapy for suitable lesions. For example, that covers selected skin tags, warts, verrucae, milia, seborrhoeic keratoses and actinic keratoses.

Where tissue needs further investigation, we send it for histopathology. Rina then reviews the results and arranges the right follow-up.

Of course, not every lesion belongs in a community clinic. Where a lesion looks suspicious or needs treatment elsewhere, Rina arranges the appropriate onward referral.

Specialist care, and still your GP

Dermatology is only one part of what Rina brings to the clinic.

First and foremost, she is an experienced GP.

So if you book about a skin problem and other aspects of your health need attention, you are already seeing a doctor who understands the wider picture.

Equally, you do not need a skin problem to see her. She also provides general private GP appointments alongside her specialist clinics.

That is exactly the combination we want here: excellent general practice, with extra expertise when you need it.

Meet Rina at our open day on 28 September

Rina will join us for The Watermill Clinic open day on 28 September.

During the afternoon, she will offer a limited number of complimentary five-minute checks of a single mole or skin lesion.

It is a good opportunity to meet Rina and the rest of the team, look around the clinic and learn more about the services now available locally.

We can offer the complimentary checks to the first 15 people who register their interest.

Why GP-led dermatology matters locally

Rina’s arrival marks another exciting step for The Watermill Clinic.

We have always wanted to keep the best parts of traditional general practice. That means knowing your doctor, having time to talk and looking at the whole person. At the same time, we want quicker access to diagnostics and to clinicians with extra expertise.

An experienced GP who also brings specialist dermatology skills and performs minor skin surgery is a perfect example of that.

Rina is a wonderful addition, and we cannot wait for more of our patients and neighbours to meet her.

The Watermill difference, more than just a skin check

Unlike many standalone skin clinics, The Watermill Clinic offers GP-led dermatology, so your skin assessment comes from a doctor who can also look at the rest of your health. If we find something that needs more than reassurance, we can often arrange minor surgery, a biopsy, histopathology or onward referral without unnecessary delays.
