How We Can Help

The Foundations Of Better Health

Lifestyle medicine looks at the different parts of everyday life that influence how you feel now and your health in the future.

It may be suitable if you would like support with nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress, gut health, weight, wellbeing or long-term health improvement.

NUTRITION & GUT HEALTH

Support with eating patterns, nutrition and gut health, helping you understand how food may affect your health and how you feel.

MOVEMENT & FITNESS

Finding realistic ways to become more active, improve fitness and build movement into everyday life.

WEIGHT & METABOLIC HEALTH

Evidence-based support with weight, metabolic health and sustainable behaviour change — without relying on quick fixes or fad diets.

SLEEP, STRESS & WELLBEING

Understanding the factors affecting your sleep, stress, energy and wellbeing, and developing practical ways to improve them.

Do I need to have a medical problem?

No. You can book a lifestyle medicine consultation even if you feel generally well but would like to improve your health, energy, fitness, sleep or wellbeing.

It can also be helpful if you are managing an ongoing health condition and want to make sustainable changes alongside your usual medical care.

Working alongside your usual medical care

Lifestyle medicine supports your overall health and wellbeing, but does not replace your NHS GP or specialist care.

Dr Liu can work alongside your existing care, helping you make lifestyle changes and advising on appropriate medical investigation or next steps where needed.

GP-LED LIFESTYLE MEDICINE

A Practical Approach To Long-Term Health

Your initial consultation with Dr Karen Liu lasts one hour, giving you time to properly explore your health, lifestyle and goals without feeling rushed.

Dr Liu will discuss your medical history, symptoms, medications, lifestyle, diet, sleep, stress, exercise habits and any previous investigations. The aim is to understand where you are now and agree practical next steps that support realistic, long-term improvement.

Where Appropriate

Realistic Goals, Ongoing Support

Lifestyle medicine isn’t about being perfect or making dramatic changes overnight. It’s about identifying the changes that are most meaningful for your health and finding ways to make them achievable and sustainable.

Dr Liu can help you define your goals, understand potential barriers and develop confidence in making lasting changes.

The number of appointments you need will depend on your goals and the level of support you would like. Some people may only need an initial consultation, while others benefit from ongoing support.

Follow-up appointments

Can be arranged at intervals that suit you, allowing time to put changes into practice, review your progress and adjust your plan where needed.

WHERE APPROPRIATE

Blood Tests & Further Investigations

You do not need to have blood tests before booking a lifestyle medicine consultation. Depending on your symptoms, goals and medical history, Dr Liu may recommend blood tests or other investigations to help understand your health more fully.

Investigations may include:

Cholesterol & cardiovascular risk

Diabetes & metabolic health

Liver & kidney function

Thyroid function

Vitamin B12 & folate

Vitamin D

Iron levels

Other relevant tests

ALSO AVAILABLE

Vitamin B12 Assessment & Treatment

Vitamin B12 plays an important role in healthy red blood cell production, nerve function and normal energy metabolism. B12 injections may be recommended for people with confirmed B12 deficiency, or where absorption of vitamin B12 is impaired.

Dr Liu or one of our other GPs can discuss your symptoms, risk factors and test results before deciding whether treatment is appropriate.

What to know before booking

B12 injections should only be given where clinically appropriate.

If you are concerned about B12 deficiency but haven’t previously been assessed, we can arrange a GP consultation and appropriate blood testing.

Blood test evidence required

We require evidence of a vitamin B12 blood test within the last 3 months before administering a B12 injection.

If you haven’t had a recent test, we can arrange this blood test for you.
