Convenient heart testing at The Watermill Clinic, including 12-lead ECGs, extended ambulatory ECG monitoring and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring.
Whether you are investigating symptoms such as palpitations or monitoring your blood pressure, our services provide clinically reviewed results and clear advice on what to do next.
A short recording of your heart's electrical activity. It shows your heart rate and rhythm, and may identify abnormalities that need further assessment.
A small, wire-free ECG monitor continuously records your heart rhythm while you go about your normal daily activities. From 24 hours to 12 days.
A portable monitor measures your blood pressure at regular intervals throughout the day and night, providing a much broader picture than a single clinic reading.
Some heart rhythm changes are intermittent and may not be present during a short ECG.
Ambulatory ECG monitoring uses a small, wire-free and discreet monitor. It records your heart rhythm continuously while you go about everyday life, helping to capture changes that occur over a longer period.
It may be useful when investigating symptoms such as:
The appropriate monitoring period will depend on your symptoms and how frequently they occur, with options ranging from 24 hours to 12 days.
The device is a small, completely wire-free monitor designed to sit discreetly on the chest underneath clothing.
It can be worn by men or women and is designed to allow you to continue with normal day-to-day activities while your heart rhythm is recorded.
There are no trailing wires or bulky recording equipment to carry around.
The monitor is water-resistant and can be worn while showering, exercising and during normal daily activities.
It should not be fully immersed in water, so swimming should be avoided while wearing it. It should also not be used in saunas or infrared cabins.
This allows continuous monitoring throughout the prescribed recording period.
We don’t simply provide you with an ECG recording.
Your ambulatory ECG is analysed and a clinical physiologist report is produced. The findings are then reviewed by one of our GPs at The Watermill Clinic.
Your ECG records your heart rhythm over the selected monitoring period.
The recording is analysed and a detailed clinical physiologist report is produced.
One of our GPs reviews your results and advises whether a further GP appointment or additional assessment is recommended.
You do not need a referral to access the service. You may also choose to share your report with your NHS GP, cardiologist or other healthcare professional.
Includes the monitor, recording, clinical physiologist report.

Blood pressure naturally changes throughout the day. A reading taken during a single appointment only provides a snapshot.
24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) uses a cuff worn around your upper arm, connected to a small portable monitor. The cuff inflates automatically at intervals through the day and night, including while you sleep, so the readings give a more representative picture than a single clinic measurement.
The inflation can feel tight or briefly uncomfortable, but it should not be painful.
Ambulatory monitoring can be particularly useful when a GP wants to understand how your blood pressure behaves outside the clinic environment.
Multiple readings taken throughout the day and night can provide more information than a single clinic measurement and may help when assessing possible hypertension.
Readings taken at home during normal activities can show whether blood pressure remains raised away from the clinic, and may help where anxiety affects your measurements.
If you are already being treated for high blood pressure, 24-hour monitoring can help assess how well your blood pressure is controlled throughout the day and night.
Daytime and night-time readings can help your GP identify patterns in your blood pressure that may not be apparent from occasional measurements.
No referral is required to book 24-hour blood pressure monitoring at The Watermill Clinic.
Once your monitoring is complete, a clinical physiologist reports on the readings and one of our GPs reviews them.
We will then tell you whether your results are reassuring, or whether we recommend a follow-up consultation.
A follow-up can be arranged with one of our GPs for further assessment, treatment or investigation.
Alternatively, you can take your results to your usual NHS GP.
Includes monitoring and GP review of your results.
If your results indicate that further clinical assessment is recommended, a separate GP consultation can be arranged.
