No. You can book a lifestyle medicine consultation even if you feel generally well but would like to improve your health, energy, fitness, sleep or wellbeing.
It can also be helpful if you are managing an ongoing health condition and want to make sustainable changes alongside your usual medical care.
Lifestyle medicine supports your overall health and wellbeing, but does not replace your NHS GP or specialist care.
Dr Liu can work alongside your existing care, helping you make lifestyle changes and advising on appropriate medical investigation or next steps where needed.
Your initial consultation with Dr Karen Liu lasts one hour, giving you time to properly explore your health, lifestyle and goals without feeling rushed.
Dr Liu will discuss your medical history, symptoms, medications, lifestyle, diet, sleep, stress, exercise habits and any previous investigations. The aim is to understand where you are now and agree practical next steps that support realistic, long-term improvement.

Dr Karen Liu BM MRCGP DFSRH FRNZCGP studied medicine at the University of Southampton and spent many years working as a GP in New Zealand before returning to the UK.
Highly experienced across general practice, Dr Liu has a particular interest in evidence-based Lifestyle Medicine and holds the Lifestyle Medicine Diploma.
She believes in taking time to listen carefully and understand the whole person, rather than looking at individual health concerns in isolation. Her approach combines her broad experience as a GP with lifestyle medicine, working alongside patients to identify realistic changes that can improve health and wellbeing over the long term.
Lifestyle medicine isn’t about being perfect or making dramatic changes overnight. It’s about identifying the changes that are most meaningful for your health and finding ways to make them achievable and sustainable.
Dr Liu can help you define your goals, understand potential barriers and develop confidence in making lasting changes.
The number of appointments you need will depend on your goals and the level of support you would like. Some people may only need an initial consultation, while others benefit from ongoing support.
Can be arranged at intervals that suit you, allowing time to put changes into practice, review your progress and adjust your plan where needed.
You do not need to have blood tests before booking a lifestyle medicine consultation. Depending on your symptoms, goals and medical history, Dr Liu may recommend blood tests or other investigations to help understand your health more fully.
Vitamin B12 plays an important role in healthy red blood cell production, nerve function and normal energy metabolism. B12 injections may be recommended for people with confirmed B12 deficiency, or where absorption of vitamin B12 is impaired.
Dr Liu or one of our other GPs can discuss your symptoms, risk factors and test results before deciding whether treatment is appropriate.
B12 injections should only be given where clinically appropriate.
If you are concerned about B12 deficiency but haven’t previously been assessed, we can arrange a GP consultation and appropriate blood testing.
We require evidence of a vitamin B12 blood test within the last 3 months before administering a B12 injection.
If you haven’t had a recent test, we can arrange this blood test for you.
Your appointment fee covers your consultation with Dr Karen Liu.
Blood tests, investigations, prescriptions or additional treatments may incur separate charges. These will always be discussed with you in advance.
* Evidence of a vitamin B12 blood test within the last 3 months is required.
